The framing: Kundali gives a leaning, not a verdict
Before diving into the signals, the honest framing: no Vedic chart will tell you "definitely do business" or "definitely do a job." What the chart shows is which direction your natal karmic pattern leans, which career mode is likely to feel more natural, and which Dasha windows favour which direction. Two people with almost identical charts can end up on opposite sides of this decision because the chart is the terrain, not the walk.
That said, the leaning is real. The person whose Kundali strongly indicates business tends to feel restless in employed roles — the ceiling, the reporting structure, the compressed upside all chafe. The specific job or specific business is yours to choose within that terrain. If a reader promises you more than that, be careful — they are selling certainty the tradition does not actually offer.
The 5-signal checklist
Read these five signals together — no single signal decides. What matters is the balance across all five.
Signal 1: The 10th house's overall strength
Classical texts hold that the 10th house is the primary house for judging profession — "the profession that one pursues is derived from a consideration of the 10th house, either from the Ascendant or from the Moon, whichever is stronger." A well-tenanted 10th house (planets in it, aspects on it, dignified 10th lord) means career is structurally important in this life. An empty or afflicted 10th house means career is less central — the person's identity often forms around other houses (family, spirituality, relationships).
For the job-vs-business question, look at which planets influence the 10th:
- Sun, Saturn, or the Moon in the 10th or aspecting it strongly: employment-oriented signature (institutional authority, structured hierarchy, public service).

Reading the answer honestly
The most common mistake in reading job-vs-business through a Kundali is treating a single signal as decisive. A person with strong Mercury but a badly afflicted 10th house is not straightforwardly a business person — the affliction on the 10th matters. A person with 10th lord in the 6th but a strong Rahu is not straightforwardly an employee — the Rahu leaning matters. The five signals must be read together.
The second most common mistake is treating the chart's leaning as fate. A chart that strongly indicates business is describing which direction is easier for you — not the only direction available. Many people with strong business signatures build fulfilling careers in employment because their life circumstances (financial obligations, health, family) make that the responsible choice.
