The numerology systems on this page — Chaldean (Cheiro) and the Lo Shu grid — are modern traditions with 19th- and 20th-century Western and ancient Chinese roots, not branches of classical Vedic Jyotish. Foundational Sanskrit Jyotish texts (Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, Brihat Jataka, Saravali, Phaladeepika, Jataka Parijata, Uttara Kalamrita) do not describe birth-date reduction or English-alphabet name numerology.

The Life Path / Expression / Soul Urge framework was built by three Americans between 1908 and mid-20th century — L. Dow Balliett, Julia Seton (who coined the word "numerology" ~1912), and Juno Jordan. The "Chaldean" name-number tables in wide circulation trace to Cheiro (William John Warner, 1866–1936). Respected Jyotish teachers such as K.N. Rao practice without numerology; scholar Shyamasundara Dasa argues the method is calendar- and alphabet-dependent (reduce your birthdate in Vikram Samvat vs Saka vs Gregorian and you get different numbers) rather than universal.

We publish these calculators because millions find them meaningful and they can prompt useful self-reflection. But treat the output as reflective, not predictive — and never as a substitute for a Jyotish analysis of your actual birth chart. Of the sections below, the Lo Shu grid is the most textually defensible (genuinely ancient Chinese, independent of the Gregorian calendar); the Life Path and Karmic Debt sections are 20th-century Western frameworks.
