About Shubh Bhagya
Free Vedic astrology built the way classical astrologers always meant it — honestly. No fear-based upsell. No astrologer-chat funnels. No prescribed gemstones you never asked for.
Why Bhagya exists
Every free Kundli site in India runs the same business model: give away the chart as a doorway, then hand you off to a paid consultant who finds something scary in your reading and prescribes an expensive remedy. That model requires the reading itself to plant anxiety — because a calm, honest reading doesn't convert.
Bhagya was built to be the opposite of that. Read the sky honestly, cite the classical source, and let readers act on what they learn. If your chart has a difficult Sade Sati transit, we'll name the challenge and explain the classical response. If it doesn't have Kaal Sarp Dosh, we won't manufacture one. If Manglik cancellations apply, we count them — most tools ignore them because a cancelled dosha doesn't upsell.
The site is free forever because it has to be. The moment you owe someone money for an astrology reading, the incentive to tell you what you want to hear starts distorting the reading. Free removes that distortion.
Our editorial principles
- Every classical rule cited is sourced. When we say "per BPHS" we mean Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra. When we cite Phaladeepika or Jataka Parijata, we mean those specific texts. When classical texts disagree, we say so.
- No fear-based framing. "Weather, not destiny" is our metaphor of choice. A challenging transit is described as the season it is, not as catastrophe. We do not predict specific events.
- Cancellations count. Real Vedic astrology has as many cancellation rules as it does doshas. Bhagya applies them all — Manglik cancellations from same-sign, from own/exalted Mars, from Jupiter's 7th aspect, from Libra debility; Bhakoot cancellations from same rashi-lord or Naisargika-friend Moon-lords; Nadi cancellations from same-nakshatra-different-pada and same-rashi-different-nakshatra.
- Never wear gemstones without a chart consultation. This is a content-safety rule we hold to strictly. Gemstones are powerful and can worsen a chart if the wrong stone is chosen. We describe classical gemstone options for each planet but always mark them as consultation-required.
- No astrologer-chat funnel. Bhagya does not sell astrologer time. There is no "click to consult" button, no push toward paid readings, no pop-up asking for your phone number. The chart and reading are the whole product.
- Honest about limits. Astrology can describe classical tendencies of a chart. It cannot predict specific events. We say so.

Every article is source-cited; every chart calculation runs through Swiss Ephemeris on sidereal Lahiri ayanamsa.

Which classical texts we cite
Vedic astrology has a canonical corpus. Bhagya's articles cite from these primarily:
- Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra (BPHS) — Sage Parashara, ~600 BCE. The foundational text; the largest single source of classical rules Bhagya uses.
- Phaladeepika — Mantreshwara, 14th c. Detailed treatment of yogas and prediction; a common cross-reference for Dhana yogas and marriage timing.
- Jataka Parijata — Vaidyanatha Dikshita, 15th c. Practical prediction manual; strong on Dasha effects.
- Brihat Jataka — Varahamihira, 6th c. CE. Concise classical reference; the oldest of the ones we cite.
- Saravali — Kalyana Varma, ~10th c. Referenced for planet-in-house significations.
- Uttara Kalamrita — Kalidasa. Referenced for special ascendant and Bhava considerations.
- Grihya Sutras — for Muhurat rules including Namkaran and Vidyarambh timings.
For nakshatra padas and the deeper Nakshatra system, we also reference modern classical scholars — Dr. B.V. Raman, K.N. Rao, Dennis Harness, and the Sanskrit editions from Sagar Publications.
How the chart math works
Every chart on Bhagya is computed via Swiss Ephemeris (pyswisseph), the same astronomical library used by every serious astrology software product. Ayanamsa: sidereal Lahiri (Chitrapaksha), the standard Indian classical reference. Houses: whole-sign (each rashi = one house), matching the classical Parashari convention rather than the Placidus system used in Western astrology.
Nakshatra padas, Vimshottari Dasha, planetary dignities (exaltation/debilitation/ moolatrikona), and all classical yogas are computed from first principles per BPHS rules — nothing is hardcoded from a lookup that a competitor might have gotten wrong. Manglik / Sade Sati / Kaal Sarp checks apply the full canonical rule set including every classical cancellation.
